Customers will receive the first F-150 Lightnings a little early early

Ford has stated that production of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck will begin in Spring 2022, which means… drum roll… it will be right on time. Dare we say, Ford is even a little ahead of schedule, announcing that Lightning deliveries will begin on April 26—before May, when the vehicle was supposed to reach inaugural buyers—which is almost unbelievable. Shame on you for foreseeing delays and supply chain concerns, or the nearly certain delays in a much awaited product with brand-new-to-the-maker technology.

On April 26, 2022, Ford and UAW executives will organize a Ford F-150 Lightning Job #1 celebration for customers and employees, proving that manufacturing is ready to commence. If there isn’t an EV truck—according to Ford, “the first-ever full-size all-electric pickup to go on sale”—well, that’s a pretty humiliating faux pax that no amount of champagne, expensive canapés, or party favors can make up for. Not that the champagne or gourmet appetizers have been confirmed, but you get the idea: Ford’s faith in Job 1 is supported by a par-tay. The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, is going to be a hotbed of activity as it prepares to produce Ford’s electric truck by the end of the month. Cheers. Please pass the shrimp.

The base price of the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is just over $40,000, with additional trims nearly tripling that price. Its two motors should produce 563 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque, accelerate to 60 mph in the mid-fours, and have a range of 320 miles when powered by the extended-range battery. It has a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds, as well as an independent rear suspension. A 15.5-inch touchscreen and 12-inch instrument cluster will be available on the interior. BlueCruise will be available for hands-free highway driving. Approximately 95% of the accessories available for the gasoline F-150 are also available for the electric Lightning.
